So tough to remain number 1. Did you see the Wimbledon final? Now you would understand when its said- “Easy to be number one. so tough to remain number one.” Why is it so? When you are already number one, you know the game. you know the rules. What prevents you from doing it again? Its your mind. There could be many reasons though
- Getting complacent
- Fear of loosing – reputation at stake
- Loosing direction
- Failing to plan
- Unable to foresee
- Attitude change
- Mental blocks
Getting complacent might be thought of as most frequent reason, but I feel its more of fear. Fear of loosing is what bogs you down. You put your reputation at stake. While when you were not number one, you had nothing to loose. You get defensive. And forget that sometimes attack is the better defense.
There can be other reasons. You are number one and you don’t know what next. No direction to follow. You have been following number one but know you are number one and being followed. You don’t know which way to run. You have no plan. What should you plan for? You have no opponent to beat. Whose actions shall you foresee?
And when, by luck, charm or hardwork, you remain number one for good time, you loose interested in it. Been there, done that. So indifferent gets you attitude that you don’t even care anymore. And worst of all you start thinking, you can’t do better than this. And that’s when you actually start loosing. Even before any battle started.
So how to remain number one? we will see!!
